Rouen
Métro
2021
Select a French regional city and imagine it develops a transport network worthy of a capital city: it is the vision behind this fictional network map of Rouen and the surrounding Normandy region, drawn in the way of iconic subway maps such as Montréal or New-York. The existing network of tramway and main buses is represented, while the regional lines are taken from current or abandoned railway lines. The background is a simplified representation of the region’s main geographical figures: the coastline and the river Seine meanders.

One of the most difficult tasks when creating a map is to give names to the places I draw. For this peninsula divided by a border, I simply took existing city names in Spanish and English-speaking countries. Because what is most important in a map is not the naming, but rather the precise and yet elegant representation of a territory, leaving just enough room for imagination.
